Ok, so other things got in the way. I just read Jen Dooley’s blog and wow did she do a great job with this program.
I took notes from her blog with the idea to post a list of websites people discovered in their travels.
I couldn’t help but get excited about her enthusiasm. From her blog:
“I did a Google search for flickr mashups and found this cool site that constantly updates all the new mashups found using Flickr.
http://www.programmableweb.com/api/flickr/mashups
“My favorite so far turned out to be Bubblr, which lets you create comic strips by adding text bubbles to your (or anyone else’s) Flickr photos and create a strip which you can then save and let people view.
http://www.pimpampum.net/bubblr/
“www.gizmodo.com. That was one I added to my del.icio.us list! What a cool site with all the cool gadgets, latest tech updates, and all blog news tech that you could ever want to read about-I love it and I turned my husband on to it too–I know what he will be bookmarking at work-ha-bookmarking-that’s soooo yesterday
I am going to need to teach him about del.icio.us, too!!!
“Secondly, my 12 year old spent the Spring semester “wiki-ing” (is that the verb version we should be using, much like “blogging”?) with his classmates about what they were all reading in class and for pleasure. I loved that-it is a great example of “going to kids and finding them where they are”! Using the computer to get them to talk about books—brilliant!!!
Thanks Jen.

Well, I’m already a bit behind. I have a blog and it’s been registered. But I still haven’t done Things 1 & 2. It’s not like I don’t think about lifelong learning and library 2.0 (or 2.0, anyway) lots of my day, and the 23 Things even more of my day, but somehow, I feel like I’m falling behind.
Is it enough to say that there are 36 librarians blogging already and it’s only Wednesday? Of course it feels like Friday, this being my last day in Montpelier this week.
But what do I think of blogging in libraries? Now that I’ve tried it (my other posts have been from home), I must say, it feels like I should be doing other things.

And made me blush. But somehow that’s not stopping me from posting this.

I’m enjoying reading all of the blogs and thought I would highlight some of the things I’m finding. At some point, I’ll add them to the 23 Things website, but for now, I don’t have that energy.
Heather’s My 23 Thingz blog has a fun Slide Master. (Yes, I realize she also has a thoughtful post on spokeo, but it’s Friday afternoon and I’m all about flash!)
RoyaltonLibrary posted a funny Muppet Show 2008 Election video
I like the little pictures Ginger Gellman uses to illustrate the posts on her weblob (Ginger, I’m sorry for the typo, but I’m glad you’ve adopted it!)
Blue Boare has a YouTube video showing what happens to a book when returned to a huge library. I’m hoping she gets the karmic technology points for learning how to embed a video she desires, if only because she referred to me as ‘the sainted Mara’!

I’m rewarding myself today for a most productive day yesterday. The 2008 CE website files are done and waiting to be uploaded, the workshop calendar is all set for people to start registering on Monday, and next week’s Things are live. My reward? Looking at the blogs and later, livening up Vermont Librarian’s MySpace account. I’m pretty comfortable with Facebook, but I have a lot to learn about MySpace. I hope I find its charm.
In the meantime, I’m quite enamored with Cathi’s blog. I love her spirit and one of these days, I’ll begin the 23 things in earnest. Or more to the point, I’ll begin blogging about my thoughts about them. But first, I’m reading the blogs.

I still haven’t started the actual 23 Things, but I did just read through everyone’s blogs. I’m so thrilled at how many people are participating (we’re at 49 declared, and at least a few more who haven’t sent me their blog URLs yet). And even more thrilled at how much fun everyone seems to be having. I hope this continues once RSS week begins on Monday.

OK, so I wrote that first post last week and decided today that it’s time take a lesson from all of you brave librarians in Vermont who are participating in this project and PUBLISH MY BLOG!
I haven’t had time to do the first week’s ‘things’ yet, though I did look them over when setting up the program. I had thought I might use my blog to write about the 23 Things and write about the process of running the program, but frankly, I’ve been so busy adding blogs, sending notes to participants (and other interested parties), and trying to set up the 2008 workshop schedule, that I haven’t gotten further than thinking up imaginary blogposts in the shower or on my way to work.

This number keeps coming up these days. Or maybe I’ve just been noticing it since unveiling Vermont’s 23 Things on the 23rd. I’m really pleased with the response so far. The blog info is pouring in. Ok, trickling, but it’s only the first week and blogging is Week 2.
